Women learn while men talk?: revisiting gender differences in political engagement in online environments

There is an inconclusive debate on whether male and female users of social media platforms engage with political content differently. While some highlight minimal differences, others evidence engagement gap where are more visible within online environments. Drawing data from a representative survey citizens in France, the UK USA, we explore granular detail. Our show gender differences for most forms engagement, but there remain indications gendered divide. feeling external efficacy crucial to regardless gender, women appear need sense higher levels competence order content, especially sharing commenting. The study confirms interest politics, extreme ideological views large network as prompt eager do not find any substantial differentiation. findings suggest country Overall, our indicate that while may be likely men participate expression, through commenting, have equal overall share voice, voices many at least muted open public discussions environment.
